Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli today informed Lok Sabha that the total LPG connections in the country have increased from 16.62 crore in April 2016 to 31.50 crore till date.
In a written reply, Mr Teli said this is due to Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana which was started in May 2016 with an objective to provide clean cooking fuel to poor households across the country. He said total LPG consumption has increased from 19,623 thousand metric tonne in 2015-16 to 28,503 thousand metric tonne in 2022-23.
