Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley arrives at parliament house to present federal budget 2016-17, in New Delhi, India, Monday, Feb. 29, 2016. It was Jaitley’s second full budget since Prime Minister Narendra Modi won a huge majority in national election in 2014, on the back of promises to turn around the economy and boost job creation. Government plans to launch a new initiative to provide cooking gas to BPL families with state support. Remember, the #GiveUp campaign that the government had earlier introduced invoking people who don’t need LPG connections to give them up. Jaitley said over 75 lakh people had given up their subsidies


# 4-month Compliance Window for domestic black money holders; tax, interest on them at 45%.
# Surcharge on super-rich with income of over Rs 1 cr raised to 15%, from 12%.
# House rent deduction raised from Rs 20,000 to Rs 60,000.

Tax

Infrastructure and agriculture cess to be levied.

Excise duty raised from 10 to 15 per cent on tobacco products other than beedis

1 per cent service charge on purchase of luxury cars over Rs. 10 lakh and in-cash purchase of goods and services over Rs. 2 lakh.

SUVs, Luxury cars to be more expensive. 4% high capacity tax for SUVs.

Companies with revenue less than Rs 5 crore to be taxed at 29% plus surcharge

Limited tax compliance window from Jun 1 – Sep 30 for declaring undisclosed income at 45% incl. surcharge and penalties
